Crochet 101

Get hooked into the world of crochet! Learning to crochet is fun and quick with bulky wool and a big hook! Over the course of three lessons, students will learn and practice basic crochet stitches while making a selection of very practical potholders! Students will mix things up a bit in the final lesson by working with cotton yarn and a smaller hook to create a classic dishcloth, all while learning the fundamentals of pattern and chart reading! Whether you are an absolute beginner or just want to brush up on your skills, this fun class is for you! All supplies are included and no experience is necessary! Please give the shop a heads up if you're left handed, so that our instructor can plan accordingly! Crochet 201: Basic Colourwork Hat

Date(s): Thursday, January 25 and February 1 from 6-8
Now that you understand the basics of crochet, it's time to show your hook who’s boss! Make a quick and cozy, all while learning how to crochet in the round! Throw in a little extra pizzazz with some basic colourwork! (Adventurous crocheters have the option of making a messy bun hat instead!) IMG_0594 All materials are included and basic crochet skills are necessary: students should have completed several simple projects and be comfortable with basic crochet stitches. Crochet 301: Mitts, Mitts, Mitts!

Keep those crocheting fingers warm with a fabulous pair of classic mittens, under the guidance of our crochet guru Brenda!     Supplies are not included, but students will receive a 15% discount on supplies they purchase for the workshop. She is ready to be your personal knitting wizard, answer your questions, and generally make you get that project done. Basic knitting experience is required, and students are encouraged to bring a second project to work on in case they get stuck during class. UPDATE: As of October 31, the December class has been expanded to include a 4th date (November 30). This workshop will focus on learning how to read your stitches (so that you can identify where you are in your pattern and your project), and will go over the fundamentals of well executed knitting, design, and problem solving. Students should have basic knitting experience - this is not an introductory course. Join knit whiz Maureen for our third in a series of intermediate level workshops designed to help you improve your knitting skills! This workshop will focus on taking measurements and establishing fit and sizing in a garment. Students should have basic knitting experience - this is not an introductory course. Supplies are not included - students should bring their knitting accessories, a set of 4 or 4.5 mm needles, leftover balls of worsted weight yarns in multiple colours, a measuring tape, pen, paper, and a calculator.   Other workshops in this series include: Read Those Darn Stitches! Mitts, Mitts, Mitts

Date(s): Friday, January 19, 26, and February 2 from 6-8 PM
Brrr... it's chilly outside! Learn to make mittens with Emily and your hands will never be cold again! You will learn how to knit on double pointed needles, make increases and decreases, make a gusset, and how to pick up stitches! We'll be using Canadian design duo Tincanknits' World's Simplest Mittens pattern! mittenclass Intermediate knitting experience is necessary - students are expected to be comfortable casting on, ribbing, and working in the round without additional instruction. Materials are included. Wednesday, March 14 from 6-8 PM Sunday, March 25 from 12-4 PM Wednesday, April 4 from 6-8 PM Join in on the Frankensock/Scrappy Sock/Blender Sock/Happy Feet craze with our in-house Frankensock enthusiasts Donna and Jess! Create your own one-of-a-kind Frankensocks using a wide variety of colour options! image_medium2-9 Our two instructors will guide you through the ins and outs of knitting your first pair of socks, while incorporating a focus on colour play and different Frankensock techniques! image_medium2-3 Needles and a Frankensock yarn kit are included, though students are welcome to supplement their kit with any sock yarn scraps they may have in their stash! image_medium2-4 This is an advanced knitting workshop: students are expected to be comfortable casting on, knitting, purling, ribbing, increasing, decreasing, working in the round, and binding off without guidance.
