Crochet 101

Date(s): Friday, April 7, 21, and 28 from 6-8 PM
Get hooked into the world of crochet! Learning to crochet is fun and quick with bulky wool and a big hook! Over the course of three lessons, students will learn and practice basic crochet stitches while making a selection of very practical potholders! Students will mix things up a bit in the final lesson by working with cotton yarn and a smaller hook to create a classic dishcloth, all while learning the fundamentals of pattern and chart reading! Whether you are an absolute beginner or just want to brush up on your skills, this fun class is for you! All supplies are included and no experience is necessary! Please note: There will be no class on Friday, April 14 as the shop will be closed for Good Friday. Learn to knit with us while making a neck warmer. You will learn a cast on stitch, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, the rib stitch and a bind off stitch. Project Class

Stuck on a project you just can't seem to finish? Is there a pattern you have always wanted to try but felt you needed help? Never fear, our in-house knitting Goddess Maureen is here! She is ready to be your personal knitting guru, answer your questions, and generally make you get that project done. Basic knitting experience is required. PLEASE NOTE: March's Project class is only 4 weeks long. There will be no class on March 2! Please note: Student cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to the class will not be refunded.

Socks, Socks, Socks

Date(s): Thursday, March 16, 23, and 30 from 6-8 PM
In this class you will make a pair of ankle socks. You will learn how to knit on double pointed needles, turn a heel, pick up gusset stitches, and graft a toe using Kitchener stitch. Intermediate knitting experience is necessary: students should know how to alternate from knit to purl in the same row, be comfortable with knitting in the round, and have knit decreases before. A great pattern for improving your pattern reading skills! Materials are included. Knit 301: Bouncing Baby Sweaters!

Spring is sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where the babies is? They're out on the town, in their new, super stylish baby sweaters! Join Donna and Caitlin Friday nights in April and learn how to knit sweaters for all the babies in your life! A perfect class for students who have mastered knitting in the round and want to learn all about easy sweater construction! Students are expected to know how to cast on/bind off, rib, and work in the round. image1 Students may knit any size from 0-6 months to 2-4 years. Supplies are not included, but students will receive a 15% discount on supplies they purchase in the shop! Knit 301: Scandalous Steeking!

Date(s): April 30th, 2017 until May 7th, 2017, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Are you interested in knitting gorgeous Fair Isle, Icelandic and Scandinavian patterns, but scratch your head when they ask you to cut into your work? Have no fear - our knit whiz Josee is here! Learn to cut a steek through your knitted fabric and you’ll have the tools to tackle any stranded colorwork pattern! On garments, steeks can be used to create arm and neck openings, pockets, or cardigan fronts, allowing you to knit stranded colour work continuously without having to stop to make holes. And yes - you do actually cut into your work! In this class, students will cut a steek through a mug cozy. In the first class, you'll cast on your mug cozy and learn more about Fair Isle colour work. In the second class, you'll learn different ways to reinforce your steek (students will choose a crochet or sewn reinforcement) and then cut into your fabric with scissors! The class will finish with picking up stitches to work a button band, and some tips and tricks to get a beautiful and neat finishing for your facings! Supplies are not included, but students will receive a 15% discount on supplies they purchase in the shop! Knit 301: Eyeball Shawl Knit-A-Long Class

Date(s): May 25th, 2017 until June 22nd, 2017, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Mastered simple shawls and ready for a new challenge? Join Josee for this fun knit-a-long! You will learn how to make a circular cast on and a circular knitted fabric, work short rows in garter stitch, knit a 2-colour brioche edging with basic brioche increases, and knit an I-cord bind off, all while creating a fabulously funky and one-of-a-kind Westknits shawl! This is an advanced class - suitable for students who are comfortable casting on/binding off, knitting, purling, increasing/decreasing, and knitting in the round. This class does not include supplies, but we will help you choose yarn and needles- available for purchase at a 15% discount. Please contact the shop for a full supply list. This class has a two-week break between Lesson 2 and Lesson 3 - there will be no class on Thursday, June 8.
