The Most Common Mistakes Knitters Make - With Sally Melville

Date(s): October 29th, 2016, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Sally Melville was once asked what was the most common mistake knitters make, and the words that flew out of her mouth surprised her. So she started asking knitters the same question. Their answers were never “dropped stitches, wrong colour, bad seams”—all the things we address in technique classes. Their answers addressed more serious issues, which were various and valid. This workshop will discuss the answers Sally's heard over the years. Skills covered will include re-gauging, modifying, and improving existing patterns. Students may use their own swatches, patterns, and garments to see solutions to each of these "mistakes" that students mentioned. The workshop will then end with a description of her answer, her reasons for that answer, and the many ways we have to avoid this all-too-common mistake that stands between us and successful garments. This course is an intermediate-advanced level course - students should already have knit at least one sweater. Students will need to bring measuring tape and a calculator, and may also want to bring notepaper and a pencil, a swatch/more than one swatch in the same yarn, a pattern whose gauge does not match the swatch, a sweater that did not work, a favourite garment, or yarns of similar weight for comparison.     The last portion of this class repeats material taught in her previous workshop: KNIT TO FLATTER AND FIT.   Please note: This class will NOT cover how to fix technical mistakes such as picking up a dropped stitch or tink-ing back your work. Student cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to the class will not be refunded.
