Spinners and weavers of Ottawa - join us for an evening of fibre fun with Donna at Wabi Sabi from 6-9 pm on Friday, October 7 ! Spinners, be sure to bring your wheel or spindle and your hand-spuns for show and tell! Weavers, bring your loom, your projects (both finished and unfinished), and your ideas! This event is free of charge but space is limited! Spinning 101

Drop Spindle

Date(s): Saturday November 5 from 1-4pm
Join local fibre artist Maggie Glossop and learn how to spin using a drop spindle. This is a great beginners class! You will learn how to draft and spin a continuous thread. Drop spindle and materials are included and no experience is necessary.   Please note: Student cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to the class will not be refunded.

Wheel Spinning 101

Date(s): Sunday November 27 from 1-4
Join Maggie Glossop for this spinning class. She will teach you the basics of spinning on a wheel. You will learn how to draft and spin a continuous thread. Wheels are provided, but if you have a wheel bring your own (please let us know if you will be bringing a wheel). Materials are included. No experience necessary. Please note: Student cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to the class will not be refunded. Wheel Spinning 201: Wheel Mechanics and Maintenance

Date(s): October 1st, 2016, 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Join spinning wheel whiz Alison James for a one day intensive course on all you need to know about your spinning wheel! Alison will cover the mechanics of wheel drive systems (Scotch tension, Irish tension, double drive, and direct drive) as well as how to maintain and clean your wheel! A comprehensive handout will round out your experience, and will also allow you to maintain your wheel at home! Students are asked to bring their own wheels to the class, and to let the shop know ahead of time what drive system they have. Weaving 101

Introduction to Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom

Date(s): September 14 and 28 from 6-8:30
In this class you will receive 5 hours of instruction over two evenings, while learning the basics of weaving with the rigid heddle loom. By the end of the course, you will have created a 12 inch wide scarf/shawl using two colours. Don't have your own loom yet? No worries,  we will provide you with a  loom that you will be able to take home and work on your project provided you leave us with a fully refundable deposit. Yarn is not included, as you will pick your desired colours on the first night of class. No experience required. Tapestry Weaving

Date(s): October 30th, 2016, 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Join us for this 4 hour class and learn the basic stitches of tapestry weaving. You will learn basic techniques and patterns, and have lots of fun! Introduction to Weaving on a Shaft Loom

Date(s): Sunday, November 13 and 20 from 10-4, Wednesday, November 30 from 6-9
In this class you will receive 15 hours of instruction and learn the basics of weaving: how to make a warp, how to weave a twill scarf, and some nifty finishing techniques. Don't have your own loom yet? No worries,  we will provide you with one! After making a fully-refundable deposit, students will be free to take their projects with them to work on at home! Yarn is not included, as you will pick your desired colours on the first night of class. Tapestry Weaving - Intermediate Level

Date(s): November 12th, 2016, 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
In this 4 hour intermediate tapestry weaving workshop you will learn some new techniques that involve creating more texture as well as curvy lines and freeform shapes. This class is designed for weavers who know how to complete basic stitches and can warp up their own loom. The aim is to make your finished pieces more professional and unique. IMG_5042 Previous tapestry weaving experience required.
