Join us for a evening of fibre fun with Donna at Wabi Sabi from 6-9 PM on Friday, December 8! Exchange ideas and indulge in your fiber obsessions with a group of like-minded crafters! Be sure to bring WIPs and recent FOs for show and tell. Spinners are encouraged to bring their wheel or spindle and weavers are encouraged to to bring their loom! This event is free of charge but space will be limited! Spinners and weavers, please let the shop know if you will need space for a loom or wheel! Please note: this event is free. Interested in weaving, but not ready to dive in head first? Dip your toe into the wide world of rigid heddle weaving with this texture tasting! This family friendly class is sure to get anyone excited about weaving! After covering the basics of weaving on a rigid heddle loom, students will play, play, PLAY! with yarn, fiber, texture, and colour in order to craft a one-of-a-kind piece! Students will leave with a finished weaving that can be worn as a wacky scarf, sewn into a wicked bag, or hung from a branch as a wild wall hanging! All supplies included - the shop will provide pre-warped looms for the duration of the course. Students will have a choice of white, black, or both warp threads. No experience necessary. Ages 12 and up! Come learn the basics of tapestry weaving with local fibre artist Natalie Eedson of Woolgathering Ottawa. In this four hour hands-on workshop, you'll learn foundational techniques of weaving, including warping your loom, rya knots (fringe!), plain weave, working shapes, changing colours and finishing. You can also get creative working with roving, and learn the pile weave and the soumak weave to give you wall hanging lots of fluffy textures. By the end you'll have a beautiful woven wall hanging to cozy up your home, and a passion for more! No experience is necessary. All materials are provided - and students will take home their Ashford frame loom at the end of class! So you know how to sling a shuttle, but aren’t quite sure what to do next? That’s where our intermediate rigid heddle workshop comes in! From warping up your loom to twisting your last fringe, Emily is ready to guide you through your first big project! Each student will explore the ins and outs of warping their own loom with two or more colours, spreading their warp, weaving stripes/checks, removing their project from the loom, and twisting their fringe! Students will have the option of adding hemstitching to their work. The final session will conclude with a discussion on washing/fulling and next projects! Each student will be provided their own loom for the duration of the course. Students will be asked to make a deposit on the first day in order to take the loom home between sessions. Basic weaving experience is recommended - either Rigid Heddle Weaving 101 or Tapestry Weaving 101 (or equivalent). Ages 13 and up!
