Music, Maman & Weaving (a Wabi Sabi & Ottawa Chamberfest Collaboration) - Wabi Sabi

Music, Maman & Weaving (a Wabi Sabi & Ottawa Chamberfest Collaboration)

On July 31st, Wabi Sabi was thrilled to welcome American composer, conductor, and music commentator Robert Kapilow, for a fascinating presentation on the most recent composition in his Citypiece series, Après Maman

Après Maman was inspired by artist Louise Bourgeois’s spider sculpture Maman, located in front of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. Bourgeois’s mother was a weaver, like a spider and the sculpture is an homage to her mother.

Robert discussed the inspiration for his composition, his continuing work to inspire and engage children and marginalized communities with music, and his work on previous compositions from the Citypiece series.  He also treated the audience to a sneak preview of short audio selections from Après Maman.

The world premiere of Après Maman takes place on August 4th, during Ottawa Chamberfest at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre.

Wabi Sabi looks forward to collaborating next year with Chamberfest 2020!
