A Timey Wimey Knit-A-Thon & Fundraiser Day for CHEO! - October 26th
IT’S GOING TO BE A TIMEY WIMEY, DR. WHO KNIT-A- THON and FUNDRAISER DAY at WABI SABI! We’ll be fundraising on Saturday, October 26th ALL DAY (because time is irrelevant) and knitting from 1-4:30 PM.
Wabi Sabi is absolutely THRILLED to be partnering with the DR. WHO SOCIETY of CANADA, OTTAWA CHAPTER, in our quest to raise money for the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
Wabi Sabi, in collaboration with The Doctor Who Society of Canada (Ottawa Chapter), is delighted to announce our first ever KNIT-A-THON and FUNDRAISER DAY for CHEO! Join us on Saturday, October 26th from 1-4:30 PM to knit blue and white preemie caps for CHEO and enjoy some Whovian delights.
Make a voluntary donation and have your picture taken beside a life-size TARDIS, or chat with a 10th Doctor doppelgänger. There might also be a Dalek knitting in the store window and make sure NOT TO BLINK as a Weeping Angel walks by. 10% of all Wabi Sabi sales from that day will be donated to CHEO. We encourage you and your family to show up at the store in costume and participate in the fun.
In the afternoon from 1-4:30 PM, bring your knitting needles or crochet hooks and join us as we make little blue and white preemie caps and start a few baby blankets for the Neo- natal Unit of CHEO. All Pima Cotton Yarn will be supplied free of charge. Many thanks to Marsha Peacock, our wonderful representative of Estelle Yarns of Canada for this yarn donation. The shop will be providing a free knitting pattern for the preemie hats - you will need 3.25 mm dpns or circular needles if knitting magic loop. Watch a few episodes of Dr. Who as you knit or crochet and enjoy some yummy treats. Fish fingers and custard will also be on-hand.
For those of you who are unable to make the knit-a-thon, or who would like to get a head start, the pattern is available online now for free through our Ravelry store.
Can’t make it to the knit-a-thon or didn’t finish your hat before the end of the event? We’ll be collecting preemie hats for a couple weeks after the event. Hats must be dropped off at the shop by December 1st. At this time, we can only accept hats knit out of Cascade Ultra Pima DK. Don’t worry - there are lots of donated skeins to go around!
We really hope to see you there. Allons-y !
