Heavenly Mittens : February 11, 18 & 25
1 in stock
This class runs from 1-3pm.
These mittens really are heavenly! Choose some soft, beautiful yarns and build a pair of mittens that will not only keep your hands toasty warm, but will also wrap them in luxury. These mittens have a knitted lining that is picked up and worked after the outer mitten is complete, then tucked inside – you’ll actually be knitting 4 mittens! There is a simple openwork panel on the back of the hand. The pattern is written for three sizes, and has both written and charted instructions for this patterned panel. This class will teach an optional provisional cast on for the outer mittens, and will place particular attention on picking up thumb stitches.
Students should have already knit a pair of mittens with a thumb gusset, and be familiar with:
Knit, purl, YO, K2 tog, SSK, backwards loop cast on
Materials and Tools:
For this class, you will need to bring:
Outer Mitten – 100g worsted weight yarn, 25g laceweight silk mohair to match
Inner/Lining Mitten – 100g sportweight yarn, in a soft luxury fibre if desired, in a colour or depth of shade that contrasts with the outer mitten (NB – smallest size will use only 50g)
Scissors, darning needle, small flexible stitch holder (scrap of yarn works well)
Pencil/pen for notes
Needles – recommended needle sizes 3.75mm for outer mitten, 2.75 for lining. Use the type/method for small circumference knitting that you prefer (dpns, magic, loop, 2 circs).
A copy of the pattern will be provided to you in class.
