Knit a stylish slouchy hat for yourself and for your friends! Not a fan of the slouchy look? You can adapt this pattern to make a beanie instead. Every coat and jacket needs a coordinating hat!
prerequisites
Participants need to be able to knit and to purl. Experience knitting in the round (with circular needles) would be an asset, but not necessary, as we can show you how to do it. If you already know how to knit in the round using the magic loop method, you can do that too. However, we will not be teaching magic loop in this class.
what you will learn
You will learn to do the Alternating Cable Cast On, which is a very useful cast on to know, when doing ribbing on hats and other garments! You will also learn to do the *K3D, K2Tog* stitch pattern. If you do not already know how to do decreases, you will learn how to do SSK and K2Tog decreases. As you finish your hat, you will learn to weave in your ends, to create a polished looking project. You will also learn how to add a detachable pom-pom to your creation (e.g., by adding a snap to your hat or by using a button inside the hat to attach a pom-pom with ribbons!) You will also learn how to block your hat, using a balloon!
what to bring
You will need 3 colours of Brooklyn Tweed Shelter yarn, which is enough to make two hats! One for you and one for a friend! If you wish to add a pom-pom to your hat, you will need to buy a pom-pom. You will need a 3.5 mm 16" circular needle for the cast-on and ribbing. Depending on the method you choose to knit in the round, you will need either a 4 mm 16" circular needle for the body of the hat or a 4 mm 40" circular needle (if you are using the magic loop knitting method.) A small tool kit (e.g., with stitch markers, a tapestry needle and scissors) is recommended too.
The pattern for this class is included in the class fee, and will be provided to you a few days before the class starts.
