If you like working sweaters top-down, but are looking for something other than round yokes and raglans, the Maggie Cardigan by PetiteKnit could be the answer! This lightweight cardigan is still worked top-down, but with a contiguous set-in sleeve construction… it has a structured look in the shoulders as if the sleeves are sewn in, but they are worked along with the rest of the yoke as the knitting proceeds from top to bottom. Knit flat, it has a refined look with the fitted shoulders, as well as the advantage of being able to try it on periodically to check body and sleeve lengths. The pattern is styled with short sleeves; yarn requirements and instructions for long sleeves are included.
PetiteKnit designs are generally classic styles and use standard knitting operations, but the patterns are quite detailed and result in garments with fine finishing details.
prerequisites
Participants should be comfortable reading a detailed pattern; be familiar with standard increases (M1R and M1L) and decreases (K2tog, SSK); using stitch markers to indicate shaping operations; be able to make and measure a gauge swatch; and have chosen their size prior to class.
what you'll learn
Students will increase their confidence in reading patterns, and their understanding of shaping in the shoulder area of sweaters. There will also be specific focus on picking up stitches, and the use of the Italian (sewn) bind off for all edgings.
what to bring
Please come to class with sufficient sport-to-dk weight yarn in the required quantity for your size, along with 80cm or 100cm (32" or 42") length needles in the size you need for main and ribbing (pattern suggests 3.5mm and 3mm).
The pattern is included in the class fee, and will be sent electronically to you a few days before class starts. For reference, it can be found here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/maggie-cardigan-3
homework
Before arriving for the first class, please complete gauge swatches to find the appropriate main and ribbing size needles for your sweater.
