While researching a name for this design, I discovered a Norwegian connection to my home province. Norwegian merchant ships that were at sea when Norway was invaded early in the Second World War were redirected to friendly ports throughout the world. A military training centre and barracks were established at Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, to house about 800 men. The buildings and a monument to Camp Norway can today be found on Tannery Road in Lunenburg. The Tannery Road Mittens are designed and knit following the Selbu mitten style and construction tradition. Suitable for knitters with some experience.
