Join us for a fun afternoon playing with little bits of wool! Commonly known as thrums, these are pieces of wool roving that are worked into your knitting to create a warm, dense fabric. They can be knit into hats and slippers, but the most common use is in mittens. This is a project workshop where participants will work away at adding thrums to a pair of mittens.
What you’ll learn
Preparing wool roving to make thrums; adding thrums to knitted pieces
Required Skills
Before taking this workshop, you should know how to cast on and work in the round (on circular or double pointed needles) on small-circumference projects.
Before Class Homework
In order to make the most of this workshop, please purchase your yarn and knit a cuff as homework prior to the first class. There will not be time during the workshop to knit the cuff and also learn to thrum.
What to Bring
2 balls of Lettlopi wool are recommended for these mittens. Purchase of the yarn and knitting a cuff as homework prior to the first class is the responsibility of participants. You will choose the colour of roving you wish to use at the time of the workshop, and this is included in the class fee.
