Heavy Merino from Knitting for Olive is aran weight merino that doesn't behave like most merino. Without superwash treatment, it retains the natural elasticity and character of the wool: meaning better stitch definition, more texture, and a fabric that has genuine presence rather than the uniform softness superwash can produce. It's an excellent choice for cables, textured stitches, and sweaters where you want the knitting to do the talking. Hand wash and dry flat; the lack of superwash treatment means it will felt if agitated in hot water, but treated well it's a very rewarding yarn to work with.

indulgent fibres with excellent manners

Heavy merino is a yarn that we would categorize as a polite hedonist. A polite hedonist loves luxury but keeps its manners. These yarns are made from indulgent fibres that feel wonderful to work with and create soft, wearable fabrics: luxury that behaves itself beautifully.

Still worth a proper introduction: swatch before committing, especially when substituting. And when it comes time to wash, treat finished pieces gently so the fibres can stay at their best.

Using 4.50 mm (US 7) - 5.50 mm (US 9) needles (or whatever your pattern recommends), cast on 10 stitches. Knit 6 rows. Repeat the following 2 rows until the work measures 3":

  1. knit 3, purl to the last 3 stitches, knit 3
  2. knit all stitches

Knit 6 more rows and cast off. Wash and block using the same method you will use for the finished item. Measure and count your gauge across the middle stitches of the swatch.
