Lana Grande is Cascade's super bulky offering in their trusted Peruvian highland wool: the same reliable base as the 220 Worsted, scaled up to a weight that produces fast, satisfying results. Lofty and sturdy with a warmth that reflects the highland origins of the fibre, it's surprisingly soft for a super bulky wool. Not superwash treated, so it's best suited to outerwear, blankets, and home goods rather than items that need frequent washing. A practical choice when you want a large-scale project that works up quickly without sacrificing quality.
dependable, versatile, and ready for anything
Lana grande is a yarn that we would categorize as a workhorse. Workhorse yarns are dependable, sturdy, and reliable. They’ll help you get the job done: no drama, no complaints, just steady confidence and comfortable results. Built to balance durability with wearability, they’re the quiet backbone of many well-loved garments.
Don’t mistake dependable for dull. Workhorse yarns are wonderful partners for textured stitches and colourwork patterns that deserve to shine. And as always, swatching will help you get the fabric you’re hoping for.

How do I make a basic gauge swatch for this yarn?
Using 9.00 mm (US 13) - 12.75 mm (US 17) needles (or whatever your pattern recommends), cast on 10 stitches. Knit 6 rows. Repeat the following 2 rows until the work measures 3":
- knit 3, purl to the last 3 stitches, knit 3
- knit all stitches
Knit 6 more rows and cast off. Wash and block using the same method you will use for the finished item. Measure and count your gauge across the middle stitches of the swatch.
