made in Türkiye
Mokosh is one of Hey Mama Wolf’s most popular yarns. It’s a 2-ply, sport weight yarn made from Merino d'Arles GOTS-certified wool—with a 21 micron count, this is the softest wool native to Europe. This rare sheep breed hails from southern France and, due to the high crimp of its fleece, yarn spun from this wool has pockets of trapped air, providing insulation and resulting in warmer garments. The wool from this breed is exceptionally fluffy, bouncy, and soft.
Our favorite GOTS-certified mill in Turkey then spins and dyes our exquisite organic wool, allowing us to have everything under one roof. This reduces our carbon footprint and ensures that the wool meets our high standards for quality and sustainability. GOTS certification is important to us, as it guarantees the best for the environment, sheep, and even the people involved in the production.
Mokosh is lightweight, lofty, and has a fine sheen. This makes it ideal for knitting sweaters, hats, and shawls.

merino d'arles wool
These sheep are a cross between the old native French Alp breeds and the Merino breed, which Louis XVI was the first to import into France from Spain. Their wool is considered to be one of the softest in Europe. -
GOTS certified organic
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) was developed by leading standard setters to define world-wide recognised requirements for organic textiles. From the harvesting of the raw materials, environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing to labelling, textiles certified to GOTS provide a credible assurance to the consumer. -
mulesing free
Mulesing is a controversial farming practice used, predominantly in Australia, to prevent the parasidic infection flystrike. While mulesing prevents infection, it is a very painful procedure for the animal to endure, and more humane alternatives exist. This practice is banned in many areas of the world. If a yarn is marked as mulesing free, that means that no animals were treated this way during the production of the yarn. -
merino wool
Merino sheep create a wool with a long, smooth fibre that is lightweight, warm, and soft. Like all wool, it has excellent breathability and does an excellent job regulating temperature in garments. It is a very popular type of wool to use for hand knitting yarn, and is a great choice for socks and garments worn close to the skin.
