This is a basic shawl, perfect to adapt to any weight of yarn and designed so that, if you so wish, you can use the physical weight of your yarn to have no leftovers whatsoever. It’s perfect for using up scraps in an attractive way, blending yarns, or showcasing that awesome skein or two of hand dye that you have no idea what else to do with. While the pattern is written for a DK weight yarn, you could use anything from lace to super bulky and, with a bit of common sense, still get something wearable and attractive out of it.
You will need long (100cm) circular needles two sizes larger than recommended for your chosen yarn, and between 200 and 400g of yarn, depending on the weight and desired size of the shawl. The pictured shawl was knit with exactly 1 skein of Tsubame, on 5.0mm needles.

'wabi sabi' is a Japanese aesthetic term which focusses on recognizing and embracing the beauty of the unfinished, the imperfect and the impermanent. There is no English synonym, and we use it with respect for its roots.
