colour0085 oatmeal

Léttlopi is the standard bearer for Icelandic knitting. Lopi-spun from 100% Icelandic wool, it's an unplied yarn: meaning the fibres are air-spun rather than twisted into a traditional ply: which gives it its characteristic lightness, loft, and warmth that's disproportionate to its weight. The slight natural stickiness of Icelandic wool makes stitches nestle together, which is part of what makes it so effective for the colourwork patterns of the traditional lopapeysa. It's also the classic choice for steeking, where that same stickiness helps cut edges hold without fraying. Not the softest next to skin: best suited to outerwear and the traditional Icelandic sweater constructions it was made for. Not superwash treated; hand wash carefully.

yarn adoption profile: the storyteller

temperament: Rooted in tradition and rich with character.

great at: The Storyteller carries the echoes of older traditions. These yarns come from heritage fibres, time-honoured spinning methods, and colour palettes shaped by generations of makers. Working with them connects today’s projects to the long, shared history of textile craft.

caution: Storytellers are often a little rustic by nature. They may feel more “sheepy” than modern processed yarns and can be better suited to outerwear or layered garments if you have sensitive skin. Give them the care they deserve: swatch thoughtfully and follow laundering instructions.
