ringwood mittens
ringwood mittens
A long time ago, I knit the perfect pair of mittens. They were one of those pair that just fit the hand comfortably, were the right weight for almost any weather, and just, ultimately, made me happy any time that I got to wear them.
Of course, I didn't write down the pattern, or even remember the name of the yarn I made them out of (I believe it was from a clearance sale), and by the time I realized what a great pair of mittens I had, it was long past the point where I could make myself (and my loved ones) another identical pair (or two, or five). And so I've been waiting, for years, for a yarn that reminded me enough of the original.
When we recently got in our shipment of Sandnes Garn Tweed Recycled, I dared to hope enough that I instantly purchased a ball, and cast on. Using the original mitten and working backwards, I reconstructed the pattern pretty much perfectly. Four test mittens later, I think it's ready to share: I've added four extra sizes, for those with hands larger (and smaller!) than my own.
To knit these mittens, you will need 3.75mm needles for knitting in the round (dpn or magic loop will work fine!), and 1 ball of Sandnes Garn Tweed Recycled (or a heavy dk / light worsted yarn of your choice). There is an option to strand a laceweight silk-mohair with the mittens, if you'd like to add some warmth and extra luxury to your winter (we recommend Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair!)
The skills to make these mittens are fairly elementary: if you're comfortable knitting, purling, working in the round and increasing/decreasing, you'll be absolutely fine.
