made in Norway

Peer Gynt has been on the market ever since 1938, and the structure of the yarn makes it a favorite for knitting traditional kofte sweaters. Peer Gynt remains as popular a yarn today as it was then. In the autumn of 2022, we launched a thinner version of exactly the same yarn, with the same good properties - Tynn Peer Gynt. Garments made of Norwegian wool are light, warm and grow softer every time you wear them. Norwegian wool is durable and pill-resistant, and its superior resilience ensures that garments keep their shape over time.Β  Be kind to the environment! Wool is breathable and rarely needs washing. Instead, we recommend airing your wool garments. Garments made of Norwegian wool have a long lifespan and can remain just as beautiful for several generations. As a result, Norwegian wool can contribute to more sustainable consumption.

The same fiber is used in both Peer Gynt and Tynn Peer Gynt, but in different thicknesses - Tynn Peer Gynt is a 3-ply yarn and Peer Gynt is a 4-ply yarn.

  • sandnes garn

The largest producer of hand-knitting yarn in Northern Europe, Sandnes Garn's mill is both one of the oldest, and most up-to-date, spinning factories still running. Their focus is on taking good care of everyone involved in the production of their yarn, both animal and human, and they produce some of the most reliable yarns available on the market today.
  • wool

Wool is a textile fibre produced by the shearing of sheep. The breed of the sheep, where it was raised, and how the fibre was treated after shearing can all affect the final characteristics of wool. While some is quite harsh and rough, other wool can be luxuriously soft and squishy. As a fibre, wool is very good at trapping heat, and is one of the few fibres that stays warm even when wet.
  • mulesing free

Mulesing is a controversial farming practice used, predominantly in Australia, to prevent the parasidic infection flystrike. While mulesing prevents infection, it is a very painful procedure for the animal to endure, and more humane alternatives exist. This practice is banned in many areas of the world. If a yarn is marked as mulesing free, that means that no animals were treated this way during the production of the yarn.
