This super-easy, bottom-up beanie was designed for use in the Wabi Sabi Dr. Who knit-a-thon which took place in the store on October 26, 2019 (Ottawa, Ontario) and benefitted the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). The hat pattern is designed to fit premature babies, as indicated by the weights rather than ages (as that is a more useful measurement). The pattern is free to use, but if you are not using it to knit for charitable donations to your own local hospital, the designer encourages you to consider a donation to your nearest children’s hospital to honour the spirit of the knit-a-thon.
The pattern is colour coded to help knitters use their correct sizing, and there is a ruler at the bottom of the pattern to help with measurements. The hat is designed to be knit with a small amount (about 50-100m ) of DK weight cotton (such as Ultra Pima or Noble Cotton), and 4.0mm needles (magic loop circular or double pointed, for working in the round).
We are a proudly Canadian, independently-owned, women-run local yarn store based in Ottawa, Ontario. Our focus is on natural fibres and yarns, and we love to help promote and support Canadian producers and makers. Most of our products are of Canadian and European origin, and we do our best to work with distributors at home and abroad to find products that are of excellent quality while also being affordable, sustainable, and responsibly produced.
'wabi sabi' is a Japanese aesthetic term which focusses on recognizing and embracing the beauty of the unfinished, the imperfect and the impermanent. There is no English synonym, and we use it with respect for its roots.
