Cotton 2/8 is the laceweight companion to Brassard's Cotton 4/8, offering finer gauge options for weavers working at a closer sett or knitters seeking a very fine cotton. From Canadian manufacturer Maurice Brassard, it carries the same qualities as the broader range: non-mercerized for a natural matte finish, consistent across a large colour selection, and offered on a generous 227g cone with 1530m of yardage: practical for larger weaving projects where continuous yardage is essential. Also suitable for fine gauge knitting and crochet.

designed for a job, and excellent at it

Cotton 2/8 is a yarn that we would categorize as a specialist. Some yarns are generalists. Specialist yarns are not. These are designed to excel at a particular task: durable sock yarns, sturdy weaving yarns, hardworking cottons for dishcloths and utility knits. When used for their intended purpose, they perform beautifully.

Cotton 2/8 is primarily for weaving, and has the strong tensile strength needed to provide structure on a loom. It excels at making woven dishcloths & towels.

Specialists are happiest doing the job they were designed for. Using them outside that role can lead to unexpected results: less elasticity, different wear, or a fabric that behaves differently than you expect. Swatching is especially helpful if you’re planning to experiment.
