Heritage Tie Dye Sock takes Cascade's reliable merino/nylon sock base and runs it through a tie-dye process over a white ground, producing colour patterns that are genuinely unpredictable: no two skeins will knit up identically. The 75% superwash merino gives it the softness and next-to-skin comfort you'd want in a sock, and the 25% nylon adds the durability a sock needs at heel and toe. If you enjoy the surprise of watching a colourway develop as you knit, this is a particularly fun yarn to work with. Machine washable.

designed for a job, and excellent at it

Heritage tie dye sock is a yarn that we would categorize as a specialist. Some yarns are generalists. Specialist yarns are not. These are designed to excel at a particular task: durable sock yarns, sturdy weaving yarns, hardworking cottons for dishcloths and utility knits. When used for their intended purpose, they perform beautifully.

Designed for socks, this yarn holds up to wear while maintaining stitch definition and elasticity. It’s spun with extra twist and reinforced with nylon, giving it extra strength and resilience for high-wear projects.

Specialists are happiest doing the job they were designed for. Using them outside that role can lead to unexpected results: less elasticity, different wear, or a fabric that behaves differently than you expect. Swatching is especially helpful if you’re planning to experiment.
